35mm

A smattering over the years. From 2018 to 2023 I exclusively shot 35mm film on my grandfather's family heirloom AE-1. At some point I became concerned with the environmental impact and switched to a (used) digital camera (because e-waste is just as bad!!!). Recently, I found a lab in town that disposes of wastewater safely, so I will pull out the film camera every once in a while for special shoots, and I will book 35mm portrait sessions for sure, but I still feel like, how much of a right do we have to create this extra plastic waste? Still, seven years experience shooting film made me a much better digital photographer; I take longer to decide how I want things to look, and shoot completely manually. The forgiveness of film highlight rolloff really inspired my extreme backlit style, and I struggled with translating this to digital because of the harsh clipped highlights until I learned to embrace the imperfections (eased by a promist diffuser and vintage lenses, haha). But you can still see the influence of these years in my work.

First ever color & b&w roll from 2016 in film school. This was back when development was cheap and you could still find expired rolls to practice on. Now, the degraded greenish shadows are so sought after that I haven't shot expired film in years.
