After seven years of working professionally as a video editor as well as producing and directing my own short films as 1/3 of the art collective JONNY STUDIOS, life brought me back to photography. In film school, I was mostly shooting film, but when I changed careers and went to grad school, I also pivoted to shooting digital. Still, I took the lessons I learned from analog with me: to shoot with intention, to treat photography as a meditative and grounding practice, and to see imperfections as something to be embraced rather than eliminated.
I shoot film and digital, and this site exists as a record of the breadth of my subject matter from live music to landscapes, but my first and truest love is for portrait photography. Each human face inherently tells a story in a single image. I bring a lot of my filmmaking background to my approach, and like to shoot in a more earthy, cinematic style. Whether I'm shooting on digital or film, I have a deep love for the dramatic, vintage lenses, and playing with lighting. Often when I am booked for just headshots my sessions turn into much more, because I love getting to know the personalities of my clients and tailoring the setting and style to their taste and comfort.
My work has appeared in Nopal Magazine, Deadbeat Press' AS IT IS, and Maceration Press' PLACEHOLDER. Outside of photography, I am a conservation biologist studying a rare flower called Physaria pallida and why it's only found in one county in the entire world. I'm also learning to write both fiction and creative nonfiction and have been published in, again, Nopal Mag.
